Racey raced into the charts recently with “Lay Your Love On Me”, and that was probably the first time you’d heard their name. But, believe it or not, the boys have been together for three years.
Still, it’s fair to say that you wouldn’t have heard of them before unless of course you live in Weston-Super-Mare, which is where they all come from.
And if it hadn’t been for an ardent fan of theirs, Steve Matthews, they might still be there. Because it was Steve who persuaded Mickie Most to listen to the group’s tapes.
Mickie was impressed and before they knew where they were, Racey were signed to Rak Records. And so began their chart career.
Their fist single was written by Smokie and it was called ‘Baby it’s you’. It made the charts, but their next single ‘Lay Your Love On Me’ put them right where they deserve to be – at the top! Racey? Well that’s putting it mildly!
